Course Name:Operate a brushcutter
Description:

This course provides participants with relevant and comprehensive training in order to equip those participating with the skills and knowledge to operate a brushcutter, carry out pre-start and post-start checks of a pole saw and use basic pole saw cutting techniques in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety legislative requirements and standards.

  • Observe and follow OH&S procedures, practices, policies and precautions
  • Selection of PPE in accordance with OH&S requirements
  • Brushcutter design, components, maintenance and cutting attachments
  • Start up & shut down procedures
  • Identifying brushcutting requirements
  • Assessing site for risk potential
  • Selection of appropriate equipment in accordance with safety and maintenance
  • requirements and equipment is checked for serviceability
  • Maintaining a safe working distance from other personnel
  • Identifying safety issues and referring to others
  • Maintaining communication with supervisor and other workers
  • Monitoring brushcutter effectiveness and refuelling

Duration:1 day
Prerequisites:Prerequisites: Participants will need to meet the age requirements as stated in relevant Government regulations or industrial awards, and will need to demonstrate the physical and psychological capacity to manipulate a brushcutter.
Qualification:Statement of Attainment
Outcomes:On completion of this unit, participants are able to plan and safely carry out brushcutting operations. They will also be able to carry out equipment maintenance.
Notes:All training aids including brushcutter and safety equipment will be provided for use as required. Suitable site/s for the practical component of the course required. Participants are required to wear/bring their own steel capped boots.
